Sewer plant gets emergency repairs
The city of Lynnwood completed emergency repairs at the city’s Waste Water Treatment Plant earlier this month. The repair cost about $50,000, according to city records.
On July 21, city workers discovered the support beams holding mechanical systems that process waste water sludge were severely corroded and “at risk of catastrophic failure,” according to a staff report. The equipment was installed in 1962.
City workers were able to keep the plant running by working carefully and retaining larger quantities of sludge for periods of time.
EMS levy will go to voters Sept. 19
The city of Lynnwood will ask voters in September to reauthorize the city’s emergency medical services levy.
If approved, the property tax would be 50 cents per $1,000 of assessed value from 2007 through 2012. The City Council voted Monday to include the measure on the Sept. 19 ballot.
Council OKs repairs for pool
The Lynnwood City Council approved a $20,000 contract with Rainer Industries of Renton to repair the fabric roof of the Lynnwood Recreation Center’s pool.
The roof, which was supposed to last for about 10 years, is now almost 20 years old. The repairs are expected to extend the life of the pool for an additional two to three years.
The roof covers the Lynnwood Recreation Center’s outdoor swimming pool during the winter months. The roof is removed from June to September.
