New Vineyards park likely named
The new park in the Vineyards neighborhood will likely be named Hillside Park.
The three recommended names as suggested by the city’s Parks and Recreation Board were submitted to the Mill Creek City Council on Tuesday, Dec. 6 for discussion, and a majority of the Council members liked Hillside Park, in part because a hillside is a geographic feature of the park.
The other names submitted by the Parks Board were Salmonberry Park and Garhart Park. A vote on the name will take place at the Council’s meeting this Tuesday, Dec. 13.
Flag lowering resolution OK’d
If, in the future, the flag is flying at half-mast at Mill Creek City Hall, it could signify that a long-time city employee or official has died.
The City Council unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday setting protocol for when the flag can be lowered in honor of a current or former city employee who passes away. City manager Steve Nolen said he wanted a resolution that would be more inclusive than what most cities do, which is lower their flags whenever a police officer or firefighter dies.
The resolution was drafted following the recent passing of longtime police Sgt. Larry Davis. It honors employees or officials who die in the line of duty, or former ones who served for 10 or more years and die within five years of leaving city service.
Todd sworn in
Mike Todd was sworn in to the City Council at Tuesday’s meeting. Todd was appointed in May to fill the position vacated by the death of Jack Start. Todd ran unopposed in the general election and will serve the remaining two years of Start’s term.
