Flower baskets may come back
The flower baskets that the city of Mill Creek is no longer displaying may appear again around town.
The Mill Creek Community Association has requested permission from the city to display the baskets on light posts in its service area along Village Green Drive and some subdivisions.
“We’d love to install them in May,” said Mary Ann Baggenstos, executive administrator for the community association.
At the Tuesday, Feb. 1 study session, City Council members gave an informal OK to using the baskets, provided city staff can work out cost and liability issues.
“Personally, I miss seeing the baskets,” Mayor Terry Ryan said.
City manager salary range is set
The successor to former Mill Creek city manager Bob Stowe will be paid between $94,000 and $107,000 per year.
During lengthy discussions at the Tuesday, Feb. 1 study session, City Council members set the salary range, taking an average of the salary ranges Council members were willing to pay.
According to research done by the Prothman Company, the firm contracted by the city to recruit a new manager, similar positions in cities of approximately the same size earn an average of between $92,000 and $113,000. Greg Prothman recommended a salary range of between $90,000 and $118,000.
Council members cited factors such as paying more than department heads and budgetary concerns in their reasons for setting the salary range for the position.
Stowe, who left for the same position with the city of Bothell, was slated to make approximately $98,000 this year, Ryan said.
