All of the incumbents on the Mill Creek City Council will apparently seek re-election this fall.

Mayor Terry Ryan and Council member John Hudgins on July 6 both filed campaign finance documents with the state Public Disclosure Commission.

Both Ryan and Hudgins have pledged to spend no more than $3,500 on their campaigns, and not to accept more than $300 from any contributor except themselves. That option, called mini reporting, has traditionally been the reporting option with candidates for Mill Creek City Council.

Ryan officially announced his re-election bid in a news release on Tuesday, July 19.

Ryan cited three reasons for seeking another term: Keeping personal safety and security as the highest city priority; long-term financial stability planning; and set a timetable to complete all parks within the current city limits.

“Expanding the commercial tax base of our city helps reduce the homeowner’s tax burden,” Ryan added. “Our Town Center has been a huge success. When finished, the project will greatly improve our tax base.”

Ryan is the senior member of the City Council and has served the city for 10 years. He is the only three-term Mayor in city history.

Ryan, his wife Roberta and their four children have lived in Mill Creek for 14 years. He is involved as a local youth soccer coach and is active in his parish.

In addition to Ryan and Hudgins, Mayor Pro-tem Donna Michelson and Council member Mary Kay Voss have also filed campaign finance documents with the state.

Ryan, Voss and Michelson have all officially announced their re-election bids, while Hudgins has not. So far, no challengers to the incumbents have filed with the commission.

However, Mike Todd, currently sitting on the Council as an interim member, may face a challenge this fall from former Council member Steven Hypse. The two are filing for position 6, which is to finish serving the remaining two years of a term vacated when John “Jack” Start passed away in April.

The official filing period is next week, and begins Monday, July 25. All filings must be submitted to the Snohomish County auditor by 5 p.m. Friday, July 29.

For filing information, contact the auditor’s recording department at 3000 Rockefeller Ave., M/S 204, Everett, WA 98021; at 425-388-3483; or online at www1.co.snohomish.wa.us/Departments/Auditor.
