Tomorrow will not only be a big community clean-up day, it will also serve as the first time the city of Mill Creek has officially celebrated Earth Day.
The event, which takes place from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 23, is serving two purposes, public works director Doug Jacobson told the Mill Creek Business Association during its March meeting.
“The city is trying to accomplish some projects it can’t get to with current staff,” Jacobson said. “We picked projects that center around the Earth Day theme.
The event will begin with volunteers meeting at Mill Creek City Hall at 9 a.m. At 9:30, groups of volunteers will go to a variety of locations around town.
One of the projects will re-plant flowers at local parks and near city entry signs. Another one will clear brush and tree limbs for a trail at the Cougar Park site across the street from Mill Creek Elementary School. A third project will pick up trash in Mill Creek Town Center. Another project will clear brush for the North Creek Trail between City Hall and North Creek Presbyterian church. Another project will clear blackberry bushes and pick up trash along the Bothell-Everett Highway.
Trash bags and flowers will be provided, but volunteers are asked to bring garden tools and gloves for brush and tree limb projects.
And as a reward for their efforts, volunteers will be treated to a free barbecue at noon at City Hall.
For more information, call Marci Chew at 425-921-5709. Businesses and community organizations can sponsor teams for the event as well, Jacobson said.
