Taxable retail sales in Mill Creek continue to grow, according to the state Department of Revenue.

Such sales for the period April through June of this year were in excess of $60.2 million, a 27.3 percent increase for the same period in 2005. Mill Creek’s increase was the largest in South Snohomish County.

Factors behind the increase were the annexation of the Thomas Lake Shopping Center into the city last December and more shops and restaurants opening in Mill Creek Town Center.

Mill Creek’s figures were echoed throughout Snohomish County and the state. The county as a whole saw a 15.3 increase in the second quarter of 2006, to $2.7 billion.

Statewide, taxable retail sales increased 10.5 percent during the second quarter of 2006, the biggest percentage gain in 16 years, according to the Department of Revenue.

Sales by Washington businesses reached $27.6 billion during the April through June period, a $2.6 billion increase over the second quarter of 2005.
