Citizens of Shoreline live here for many different reasons. Whatever the various reasons may be, there is a common theme through them all: Shoreline is not Seattle.
Granted, I have nothing against Seattle, or Seattleites. The fact of the matter is Shoreline is its own city for a reason.
The uniqueness of Shoreline is something that must be cherished and preserved. From our neighborhoods, public school system, to small businesses, we have developed a city of opportunity for all citizens.
I now see our city headed down the wrong path. We have an obligation to our citizens to preserve their way or life, equal to when they moved here, while still implementing responsible growth.
Proposals like increasing density in our existing residential areas will have a lasting impact on the fabric of our neighborhoods. Enjoyable aspects of our lifestyle in Shoreline such as children playing in their yards, walking to school, evergreen trees in our neighborhood, and living with a little space between your neighbors are worth preserving.
Turning our city in to another “Seattle” is not going to solve our current problems or prevent future ones. Just because we are the neighbor to the north, does not mandate us to the insufferable urban density of a big city!
