First holiday weekend without buses

Community Transit bus and DART paratransit service will not operate on either July 4 or July 5. This is the first holiday affected by the agency’s latest service adjustments, which include the suspension of service on Sundays and major holidays.

Sunday and major holiday service was suspended starting June 13 as part of an effort to help balance the agency’s budget for 2010 and 2011.

Other affected holidays are Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and Memorial Day. Community Transit also has eliminated some duplicative routes and loops, reduced early morning and late night service, shortened many commuter routes and reduced the frequency of Route 101 along Highway 99.

Liquor stores open on holiday

State liquor stores will have regular store hours July 4 and 5. Store schedules and phone numbers are available at www.liq.wa.gov. Contract liquor stores may also be open over the weekend. Contact stores directly for their schedules.

COMMUNITY NEWS

Lynnwood sewage discharge

On June 17 at about 12:30 p.m., Northshore Paving was laying asphalt on the 44th Avenue West and the Interurban Trail Pedestrian Bridge when the steel plate covering a sewer manhole shifted, causing asphalt to fill and block the manhole, leading to a sewer overflow.

The sewage flowed into the storm drainage system with discharge to Scriber Creek near 44th Avenue West. It was estimated that approximately 150,000 gallons of sewage spilled into the drainage system. City and contractor crews set up pumps to redirect sewage back into the sanitary system. By 9 p.m. the blockage had been cleared. Cleanup and testing will continue around the site.

MLT park plans
