Low-cost pertussis vaccine available

In an effort to slow the spread of whooping cough in Snohomish County, the Snohomish Health District has delivered free doses of the Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccine to area pharmacies to administer to low-income, uninsured adults.

Whooping cough – also called pertussis – sickens babies most severely because they have no immunity. Adults need a booster shot because the childhood vaccine wears off over time.

There’s no charge for the vaccine, although pharmacies might charge up to $15.60 to administer the dose.

Local pharmacies with the free vaccine:

EDMONDS: Bartell Drugs, 23028 100th Ave. W; QFC, 22828 100th Ave. W

LYNNWOOD: Bartell Drugs, 17633 Highway 99 and 3625 148th St. SW, Suite B

BOTHELL: Bartell Drugs, 22833 Bothell-Everett Highway and 18001 Bothell-Everett Highway

MILL CREEK: QFC, 926 164th St. SE

Other low-cost vaccinators are listed at www.snohd.org.
