Joel Seeger, 11, of Brier, was named the 2010 Archer of the Year by the Washington State Archery Association. Seeger is the youngest person to ever receive the honor. CT budget hearing

The Community Transit Board of Directors is hosting a public hearing on the agency’s proposed 2011 budget and its Six-Year Transit Development Plan, 3 p.m. Nov. 4 at the CT Board Room, 7100 Hardeson Road, Everett.

CT is proposing a 2011 budget that would eliminate 18 administrative positions and two positions from the transit police unit, which is provided under contract by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. These cuts are being made to reduce costs because Community Transit has seen its sales tax revenue drop 20 percent since 2007. A budget summary is available at www.communitytransit.org/budget.

CT also is making adjustments to its six-year transit plan. That plan is designed to guide the agency’s future. A summary of this information is available at www.communitytransit.org/future plans.

County’s tourism plan available for review, comment

Snohomish County is seeking input on draft recommendations for the 2011-2015 Strategic Tourism Plan.

During the next five years, the county’s Tourism Strategic Plan will serve as a road map for the county. The plan will guide actions and investments.

Six overlying strategies have been recommended along with tasks and resources to support each strategy. The plan helps the county use its resources for the greatest impact by focusing attention on key strategic areas.

To read a copy of the report and to comment, go to www.snocobiz.org/news.php?nid=45. Comments also can be sent to Wendy Becker, Economic and Cultural Development Officer, at wendy.becker@snoco.org. Deadline for comments is 5 p.m. Nov. 5.

BUSINESS NEWS

Rite Aid flu clinics

Rite Aid will host flu shot clinics at South County locations, from 2-6 p.m., Nov.9-11. Nurses will give flu shots on a first-come, first-served basis. Shots are available for $24.99, and many insurance plans cover the cost of the shots. Most customers with Medicare will have no co-pay. Details on flu shot clinics can be found at www.riteaid.com/flu or by calling toll-free 1-866-751-1494.

This year’s single dose flu vaccine protects against three influenza viruses, including the 2009 H1N1 virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone 6 months and older get the flu vaccine as soon as it’s available, as it’s the single best way to prevent getting the flu.

Online tutorial at Dept. of Revenue

The state Department of Revenue is offering an online video tutorial to help multi-state businesses determine if a new Washington state tax standard applies to their business. The video is available at http://dor.wa.gov.

On June 1, new economic nexus standards took effect for businesses providing certain services to Washington customers, such as professional services or earning income from loan interest, fees and royalties.

The new standards mean certain out-of-state businesses such as banks will now be liable for business and occupation taxes on income derived from customers in Washington. Conversely, Washington-based businesses that provide services to out-of-state customers may pay less B&O tax through apportionment.
