This is in protest of the closure of the Paradise Lane exit from SR 104. The closing of this access road was the subject of an Edmonds City Council meeting about a year ago, when it was proposed to eliminate the exit to appease a new commercial entity that was building there. At the public hearing, many from our neighborhood spoke in opposition. After hearing public testimony, the Edmonds City Council voted to keep the access road open. Now suddenly, without notice or opportunity to comment, poles have been installed blocking the exit road.
On a map, it looks like there are two exits close together, making one wonder why the second exit exists. Simply put, it was a smart engineer’s solution to a problem created when traffic going west on SR104 tried to exit Edmonds Way into our neighborhood without being rear-ended by ferry traffic focused on reaching the ferry in time, and wrongly assuming all traffic must be headed to the ferry. This closure creates a huge safety problem. Closing the exit to our neighborhood forces us to use an intersection that has had several accidents, requires an awkward right-hand turn exposing us to near rear-end accidents, makes us cross the new ferry holding lane at a point where we can not see traffic rushing down the ferry holding lane (using it because SR104 is so backed up), and cross directly in front of a bus stop (which can’t be seen around when the bus is there, plus causes confusion when it pulls out). Many of us have nearly been hit by the cars using the ferry holding lane as a private lane to the ferry. We hope to persuade the persons who decided to close this exit to re-open it for our safely.
