Thanks, Mr. Mayor and WSDOT.
You’ve made the daily commute for my neighbors and myself longer and more dangerous.
Referring to the new lane and intersection closure and the ferry-lane paint striping on SR 104 last week, Mr. Haakenson stated, “It’s a side effect, but by narrowing the lane, it should slow traffic down. That should make it safer for everybody.” (“Ferry lane grows longer, Sept. 10)
Well, you’ve accomplished one of your dubious goals — it is slower. But you’ve also made it more dangerous. By closing an entire lane of traffic, you’ve slowed traffic down, creating backups, more tailgating and many more potential rear-end accidents.
You’ve also arbitrarily closed an exit to Paradise Lane which allowed drivers to exit safely without causing traffic to jam up. The new turning alternative requires drivers to come nearly to a complete stop (in the sole remaining lane of traffic) to make the very sharp right turn, causing traffic behind to also stop and back up even farther, creating even more potential accidents.
It’s astounding to me that this city government does so many backwards, arbitrary alterations to its residents’ lives without asking the people who it effects the most.
Yes, ferry traffic on summer weekends occasionally clogs up SR 104, but it has never affected my ability to drive safely anywhere in this city whenever I needed to. You’ve just shut down an entire lane of traffic and an exit lane permanently because of something that happens far less than one percent of the time.
How about asking the people who live here before you screw up our lives anymore?
