Comedians will make jokes for schools’ sake

Terrace Park School’s second annual Edmonds Comedy Night is scheduled for Jan. 10.

The comedian Kermet Apio and others will perform a 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. show at the Wade James Theatre, at 950 Main St.

Last year’s show raised $6,000 for new playground at the school, but proceeds from this year’s show will go to the school’s music department.

Tickets are $20 and are available online through BrownPaperTickets.com. Special VIP tickets are $55, and are for an event that begins at 5:30 p.m. and includes meeting the comedians, as well as food and beverages.

The City of Edmonds is seeking artists and designers for the “map” component for new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) platforms.

Individual artists and designers, or teams, are encouraged to submit their qualifications to design, fabricate and install a permanent hard surface design element at three BRT station platforms that will be built on SR 99 in Edmonds.

The “map of Edmonds” concept may be stylized or abstract, but should include reference to points of interest in the geography, culture, and history of Edmonds.

A quartet of Voval Splendor will delight the ears at the second annual “A Holiday with the Classics” concert to benefit The Max Foundation, which helping leukemia patients worldwide.

The 90-minute festive program will feature classical music and holiday favorites, followed by a reception, aims to entertain and delight audiences of all ages.

The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 19 at Trinity Lutheran Church at 6215 196th St. SW, Lynnwood.

The featured artists with international careers are Seattle soprano Julie Kae Sigars, German-born mezzo soprano Ute-Christiane Freund, tenor Gregory Carroll and Bass Paul Linnes.

The singers will be supported by pianist Mark Salman, known to audiences for his impressive Beethoven interpretations and Brad Hawkins on cello.

Tickets cost $25 for adults, $15 for seniors and students, $10 for children under 18, and free for children under age 6. Light refreshments will be served.

Presenter proposals are now being accepted for the 24th annual Write on the Sound Writers’ Conference presented by the Edmonds Arts Commission.

The two-and-a-half day conference focused on the craft of writing will be held Oct. 2-4, 2009, at the Frances Anderson Center in Edmonds.

The conference offers a variety of workshops with authors, instructors and trade professionals that are a mix of how-to and hands-on, genre-based and motivation.

Interested individuals are invited to send a professional resume that includes information about teaching or presentation experience, works published, if appropriate, and a description of one or more 75- or 90-minute classes for consideration.

The Planning Board is seeking volunteers to fill two openings on the board.

The Planning Board serves as an advisory board to the City Council on a variety of land use issues, including comprehensive planning, changes in zoning, and Community Development Code amendments.

The Planning Board meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. Members must be residents of the city of Edmonds.

The Cemetery Board is seeking two volunteers to fill two openings on the board. The board consists of seven non-paid volunteers and two alternates serving four-year terms.

Board members must attend one 4 p.m. meeting on the third Thursday of each month and participate in committee work and activities involving the Edmonds Memorial Cemetery and Columbarium and the city.

An interest in the City of Edmonds, its history, and willingness to serve the citizens of Edmonds is desirable.
