Used book sale in Lake Forest Park

Friends of the Lake Forest Park Library has scheduled a used book sale 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 24 at the Lake Forest Library, located on the first floor of the Lake Forest Park Towne Centre, 17171 Bothell Way. For more information, call 206-362-8860.

Sacred music in a sacred garden

St. James Cathedral musicians will perform in a summer afternoon musical in the gardens of Holyrood Cemetery 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, at the church, located at 205 NE 205th St., in Shoreline.

Musicians include Howard Fankhauser, tenor; Clint Kraus, piano; and Jennifer Sokol, violin. Fankhauser, tenor, a graduate of Cascade High School in Everett, performs frequently with the Everett Symphony, the Everett Chorale and the Choir of the Sound.

Bring blankets or lawn chairs. Refreshments will be provided. The event is co-sponsored by St. James Cathedral and Associated Catholic Cemeteries. For more information call the Cathedral Music Office at 206-382-4874 or visit www.stjames-cathedral.org/music.

A call for young actors

Learn theater games, acting skills, voice projection, scene preparation, prop making, and stage crafts from an accomplished actress at a young actors’ class hosted by Shoreline Parks &Recreation.

Children Ages 8-12 are encouraged to register for the program, which begins 9 a.m. to noon Monday, July 26 through Thursday, August 5 at the Shoreline Historical Museum. The cost is $130. For more information or to register, please call Shoreline Parks &Recreation at 206-418-3383.

Cook awarded posthumously

Janeen Cook, who passed away in March, has been recognized with a King County Library System Lifetime Achievement Award, which is their highest award. This is the second year in a row that a Shoreline resident has been honored with this award. Cook’s husband John and son Michael accepted the award on her behalf.

StreamKeepers to evaluate water

The StreamKeepers will meet 9 a.m. Saturday, July 17 to measure the water quality at several location on McAleer and Lyon creeks. Residents are invited to join them when they meet in the lower level of the Towne Center shopping center near the library.

Teams of people, both experienced and novice, go out to several locations and measure for various indicators of the health of the streams. Job training is provided and Shorecrest students can get 2-3 hours of community service for water testing. Adults and children are encouraged to attend.
