Wene named to disability council
The Washington State Developmental Disabilities Council welcomed two new Governor-appointed members to its 33-member council, including Laethan Wene, of Shoreline. Wene will hold a three-year term and is eligible for reappointment for a second term. The council consists of self-advocates (people with developmental disabilities themselves), family members or guardians, service providers and government agency representatives.
Wene, 30, joins the council as a self-advocate. He has volunteer experience with the L.E.A.P. project through the Arc of King County, Shoreline City Council, Banchero Friends Services, Special Olympics and his church. He has worked in maintenance and janitorial services for more than a dozen years and currently is employed with Arby’s in Edmonds. He is a 1993-graduate of Edmonds-Woodway High School.
The Washington State Developmental Disabilities Council ensures that people with developmental disabilities receive the support, treatment and other services necessary to enable them to achieve their maximum potential.

Volunteers needed to drive shuttles
What would you do if you were unable to drive a car, could not take the bus, and needed to run errands such as food shopping and banking? Senior Services Transportation Program provides a solution: the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Senior Shuttle.
The shuttle transports seniors from their homes to the senior center and local destinations such as medical offices and grocery stores. Solely driven by volunteers, many seniors rely on this free service to help them stay healthy and independent. To sustain this valuable service, Senior Services needs more volunteer drivers.
The shuttle runs weekdays and volunteers choose the shifts they wish to drive. No lifting or bearing of weight is involved and drivers do not need a special driver’s license. Volunteer drivers must be over 25 years old, hold a valid driver’s license, and have no at-fault accidents during the past three years. Free training is provided.
For more information, call the shuttle manager at 206-727-6262 or apply online at www.seniorservices.org.
