Pathways offers work-skills classes
The Displaced Homemaker Center of Pathways for Women YWCA is offering a free skills workshop for women who have spent at least 10 years as a homemaker not working outside the home and now find it necessary to earn a living.
The sessions are set for 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 18 through Feb. 2 at the Applied Technology Training Center, 2333 Seaway Blvd. in Everett. There may be spots for low-income women looking for work. Call Rosemary Hill at 425-258-2766, ext. 226 for information.
TOP Foods gathers coats for kids
From Monday, Jan. 2, through Friday, Jan. 27, TOP Food &Drug stores will be drop-off sites for new and gently worn coats, hats, scarves and mittens being collected through the Warm Coats for Kids campaign.
In Edmonds, TOP Food &Drug is located at 21900 Highway 99. Others are located at 1201 N. 17th St. in Shoreline, 1605 SE. Everett Mall Way in Everett and 1301 Ave. D in Snohomish.
All donations will be distributed through social-welfare agencies in Western Washington. For information about the drive, which brings in more than 5,000 coats annually, contact Becky Skaggs at 360-650-8374 or beckys@haggen.com.
Red Cross sets CPR classes
The Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross encourages parents and those who work with children to start off the new year by learning how to save the life of an infant or child. The Red Cross course costs $33. Class schedules and information are available by calling 425-252-4103.
Hospice needs caring volunteers
Providence Hospice and Home Care of Snohomish County needs volunteers who are compassionate, good listeners and unafraid of being in the presence of those who are ill, dying or grieving, to volunteer once a week for up to four hours.
The next informational meeting is set for 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5. Training will be held from 12:30-4:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays from Jan. 19 through Feb. 23.

Boy Scouts recycle Christmas trees
In the city of Lynnwood, Boy Scout troops will be out collecting residents’ Christmas trees on three different days around the turn of the year. The collection dates are: Saturday, Dec. 31; Saturday, Jan. 7; and Sunday, Jan. 8.
