Energy safety presentation set
The Lake Forest Park Public Safety Commission is sponsoring a presentation from 7-8:30 p.m. on Oct. 13 at Third Place Commons, featuring speaker Dennis Smedsrud of Puget Sound Energy.
Smedsrud will set up a model town, complete with cars that hit power poles and knock down power lines. Attendees will learn the consequences of grabbing hold of a low voltage livestock fence and how safe a power line is that has been hanging five feet off the ground for three days.
The following questions will also be answered:
• Why can a bird land on a 7200 volt power line and not get electrocuted?
• When you drive your car over downed power lines that are still hot, why don’t you get shocked?

Recognition walls for breast cancer
Because Washington state has the highest rate of breast cancer in the country, Lake Forest Park Curves and other Towne Centre organizations are bringing a new focus to this issue. At several locations throughout Lake Forest Park Towne Centre “Recognition Walls” will be displayed. The idea is to involve the public by writing the names of those who have been affected by breast cancer.
Lake Forest Park Curves is one of 8,000 Curves nationwide waiving their membership joining fee ($75 value) for the week of October 10 -15 for women who have had a mammogram within the past 12 months.
In addition to designating a “recognition wall” and waiving the membership fee, Lake Forest Park Curves is matching donations made out to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
