Lynnwood City Center gets kudos
The city of Lynnwood received the physical plans merit award for the “Lynnwood City Center Plan,” according to the Washington Chapter American Planning Association and the Planning Association of Washington. Of the 22 projects submitted, Lynnwood received one of seven merit awards given this year.
The City of Lynnwood and the South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce jointly sponsored the Lynnwood City Center Planning Project.
The City Center subarea plan calls for redevelopment of the project area into a compact, intense and lively urban center in a 300-acre area near the I-5/I-405 interchange and located between the Lynnwood Transit Center and Alderwood Mall.
RSVP seeks volunteer drivers
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Snohomish County is seeking drivers, who can transport clients to and from appointments. You can schedule the driving to fit your free time, get reimbursed for mileage and help your neighbor maintain an independent lifestyle. You must be over 21, have insurance, a valid driver’s license and a safe running vehicle.

“Ready Corps” applicants wanted
The Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross is seeking applicants for a one-year tenure as volunteer coordinator in a program funded by Ready Corps, a division of AmeriCorps.
Duties include recruiting, training and placement of Red Cross volunteers for the chapter and other tasks related to volunteer management.
Benefits include $4,725 education award or optional reduced cash payment at the end of service, monthly living allowance, health insurance, relocation allowance, training opportunities and child care assistance. Minimum age is 18. Position starts Aug. 23, 2005.

Veterans honored at Korean War Memorial
A ceremony to honor the 52nd anniversary of the end of the Korean War is set for 11 a.m. July 23 at the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Olympia on the East Capitol Campus.
The event, organized by the Northwest Chapter of The Chosin Few, is also a tribute to the 535 state residents died during the Korean War and thousands of veterans.
