Teen readers are winners

Kristyn Little won the grand prize for this year’s ‘Teens Read through the Summer’ campaign: an iPod Shuffle, a Simpsons board game, and Subway Subs gift certificate. Local teens completed 478 book reviews to be eligible for weekly prize drawings. The grand prize drawing was sponsored by the Friends of the Lynnwood Library. Lynnwood girl earns Scout Gold Award

Kristina English of Lynnwood has been honored with a Gold Award, the highest accolade a Girl Scout can earn. The Gold Award symbolizes outstanding accomplishments in the areas of leadership, community service, career planning and personal development.

To earn her Gold Award, English taught Spanish to second graders at Brier Elementary School. The Mountlake Terrace High School grad plans to attend Western Washington University this fall to pursue her interests in broadcasting and early childhood development.

Golfers tee off in Terrace

Ballinger Lake Golf Course in Mountlake Terrace reopened for business today, Sept. 9, the new operators, Hardy Golf, announced. New and returning golfers are welcome to drop in at the 45-acre, 9-hole municipal golf course, located at 23000 Lakeview Drive, or reserve a tee time for a future visit. Panel talk on 9/11 and faith

EdCC, with the Interfaith Association of Snohomish County, will present a panel discussion by local religious leaders about ways to find common humanity in a world of religious and cultural difference. Panelists will represent Muslim, Jewish, Christian, Bahai and Buddhist faiths. “A Faith-Based Discussion of Conflict and Humanity,” is set for 1-3 p.m., Sept. 11 at the Edmonds Community College library, third floor Lynnwood Hall, 20000 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood. Co-sponsored by the Edmonds Community College Foundation, this event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Make your mark on Heritage Park bricks

The second installation of inscribed bricks in the Heritage Park plaza is scheduled for October. If you wish to be included in this installation, new inscribed bricks must be ordered by Friday, September 30.

Bricks for individuals and non-profits are $50 each, and $100 for businesses. Order forms are available at City Hall, the Visitor Information Center in the Wickers Building, and can be downloaded from the Heritage Park page on the City Web site: www.ci.lynnwood.wa.us.

Lynn Parks &Rec Board member wanted

The City of Lynnwood is seeking volunteers for an opening on the Lynnwood Parks &Recreation Board. This is a Mayor-appointed position, which is confirmed by the City Council, and has a three-year term. The opening is for an unexpired term ending on May 31, 2007.

The Lynnwood Parks &Recreation Board is made up of seven volunteers who work to support parks and recreation in Lynnwood. Responsibilities of Board Members include attending a monthly meeting, as well as other meetings and activities as appropriate.

Applications are due September 30, 2005. Applicants must live within Lynnwood city limits.
