Second language class offered

Free English Talk Time (Conversation) Classes are offered for parents, adults, and friends in the Shoreline, Lake Forest Park and Seattle areas from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday mornings, starting Sept. 29 at Parkwood Elementary School in Shoreline. The school is located at 1815 N.155th St. (Portable 1), in Shoreline.

Candidate’s forum set by Chamber

Shoreline Chamber of Commerce will present its annual candidate’s forum from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Oct. 6 in the Shoreline Room, at the Shoreline Center. The Shoreline Room is at the northern end of the main building of the conference center, located at 18560 First Ave. NE. Invited to speak at the televised event are candidates for King County Executive, King County Council Position 1 and Shoreline City Council candidates.

Garden club meeting

The October meeting of the Lake Forest Park Garden Club will be from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Oct. 11 in the stage area of Lake Forest Park Commons, located at Towne Centre on the corner of Ballinger Way and Bothell Way in the Lake Forest Park shopping mall complex.

Anza Muenchow, CSA gardener from Whidbey Island, will present the program on growing culinary herbs, which will also be on sale at the meeting. Guests and new members are welcome. For more information, call 206-362-5475.

Stewardship meeting set

The Lake Forest Park Stewardship Foundation has scheduled its annual meeting from 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29 at Lake Forest Park City Hall Council Chambers. Attendees will learn about ways to create a natural land legacy in Lake Forest Park that ensures a livable community and healthy environment for future generations. Dessert will be provided.

Aurora Avenue construction

Construction staging continues along Westminster Way. To avoid possible congestion, motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to use N. 155th Street instead of Westminster Way.

Crews are excavating trenches for the new 12-inch water main to be installed along the west side of Aurora between N. 145th and N. 155th streets and crossing Aurora at N. 155th Street. Excavations for trenches crossing Aurora at the intersections will be done at night to avoid major traffic delays. This night work will be done intermittently over the next two weeks.

Crews will also be installing conduit for Seattle City Light and communications from N. 155th to N. 160th streets. Puget Sound Energy’s contractor continues work on relocating and upgrading gas lines between N. 145th and N. 155th streets on Aurora.

Police officers will be on site to help with traffic control and safety in the construction area. Please drive carefully and observe the temporary construction speed limit of 35 mph.

North City construction

Crews are continuing to install underground utility vaults and conduit on the west side of 15th Avenue NE. They are also installing new storm drainage structures and pipe on the east side of 15th Avenue NE between NE 177th to NE 179th streets, installing signal and street light pole foundations along the west side of 15th Avenue NE between NE 175th and 180th streets and installing new concrete curbs, gutters, driveways and sidewalks along the east side of 15th Avenue NE between NE 175th and NE 177th streets.

Crews working for Shoreline Water District are also upgrading water service to buildings on the west side of 15th Avenue NE.

The construction team has been meeting regularly with businesses to discuss and address individual concerns.

Traffic control personnel will be on site to help with traffic control and safety in the construction area.
