National Night Out on Aug. 2
On Tuesday, Aug. 2, residents are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “22nd Annual National Night Out” (NNO) crime and drug prevention event, set for 7-10 p.m. Aug. 2.
Residents across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on the outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Many neighborhoods will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, visits from police and fire department personnel, flashlight walks, contests, youth activities and anticrime rallies.

Kagi honored by association
Ruth Kagi, D-Lake Forest Park, was honored for her service and dedication to people with developmental disabilities by the Community Residential Services Association (CRSA) at a luncheon on July 19.
“Representative Kagi has been a long time supporter and champion of community programs for our population. She really cares about each person and focuses on funding and support that work for people, strengthens their community and prevents problems,” CRSA member CaraLee Cook said.
This is the second consecutive year that Kagi has been honored by the association.
Last call for August 1995 kids
On Aug. 31, the city of Shoreline will be 10 years old. As part of the 10-year Anniversary and Celebrate Shoreline festivities, city staff are looking for children born in Shoreline during the month of August 1995 and who have lived here for all 10 years, to be part of the event.
The children are invited to march in the Celebrate Shoreline Parade, have their names displayed at the festival and will also receive an “I’m a 10 in Shoreline” T-Shirt to wear in the parade.

Trenching in North City
Crews are about 35 percent complete with installing the utility vaults and conduit trenches for the utility undergrounding along 15th Avenue NE. To increase productivity, the contractor is working on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will continue until trenching is completed.
More than half of the sidewalk on the east side of 15th Avenue NE. has been removed. Fences and cones segregate the work zone and delineate a temporary pedestrian walkway in this area.
A uniformed police officer is assisting with traffic control at N. 175th Street and 15th Avenue NE and will continue to provide assistance whenever the contractor works on trenches crossing either of these streets.
Construction on Aurora Avenue
Crews began work Monday, July 25, to install temporary traffic signals for the Aurora Corridor project, N. 145th Street to N. 165th Street.
Most of the work will occur at night between the hours of 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Work will begin with the signal at N. 155th Street and move to the signals at N. 160th Street and N. 165th Street.
The work will involve some temporary lane closures. Police officers will be on site to help with traffic control and safety in the construction area. Please drive carefully and observe the temporary construction speed limit of 35 MPH.
