Torch run today by law enforcement
The Shoreline Police Department will participate in the Law Enforcement Torch for Special Olympics Summer Games today, June 3. The torch will begin its journey at Blaine on Thursday, June 2 and will travel the Highway 99 corridor from Blaine to McCord, south of Tacoma. The Edmonds Police Department is set to pass the torch to Shoreline police at 9 a.m. June 3. Shoreline police will run the torch to 145th Street, where they will pass it to Seattle police officers.
A motor brigade of law enforcement personnel and volunteers will follow the runners to McCord Air Force base to attend the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympics Summer Games.
Celebrate Hwy 99 in Shoreline
In honor of Highway 99 (Aurora Avenue N) being recognized as an International Historic Corridor, several events are planned for June 11. All proceeds will benefit Special Olympics.
• The Law Enforcement Torch Run Campaign is hosting a car show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 11 on Aurora Square in Shoreline, at 155th Street and Aurora Avenue N. The event is entitled “Cops &Rodders on Highway 99.”
• The Shoreline Historical Museum is hosting a one-day event on June 11, entitled “the History of Speed on Aurora.”
Vintage cars at Shoreline museum
The annual Golden Wheels Fraternity Static Exhibit of Vintage Race Cars is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 11 at the Shoreline Historical Museum, 749 N. 175th St. Shoreline. For more information, call 206-542-7111.
Children’s Fair in Lake Forest Park
The city of Lake Forest Park is sponsoring a Children’s Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, in front of city hall, 17425 Ballinger Way NE.
Children and their families are invited to join the fun. There will be free pony rides, a balloon clown, giant inflatable slide, face painting, art activities, live music and much more. All activities are free.

Shoreline Star winner announced
The city of Shoreline announced that Ros Bird has been selected as a Shoreline Star and will be the seventh star honored at the June 13 Shoreline City Council meeting.
As a Shoreline Star, Bird is being honored for her contribution to the Shoreline community. She has been involved with many organizations, including the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council, the Shoreline Sister Cities Association and the Friends of Third Place Commons.
Ros Bird is one of 12 Shoreline Stars to be honored at upcoming City Council meetings between now and August 15.
Farmers market opens June 12
The Lake Forest Park Commons Farmers Market will be open for the season 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays, beginning June 12, located at the lower level of Lake Forest Park Towne Centre at the intersection of Ballinger Way and Bothell Way (SR 104 and SR 522.)
Local farmers will fill their booths with locally grown, just picked produce, fresh flowers, fruits, vegetables, herbs, beans and flowers. The farmers market will include seasonal produce, cooking demonstrations, ready-to-eat foods, special events, music and entertainment.Â
