Mariners, Mets strike out hunger
Edmonds food banks will be among those benefiting from food collected at the Saturday, June 18 baseball game between the Seattle Mariners and New York Mets.
Northwest Harvest volunteers stationed at Safeco Field entrances from 5:30-7 p.m. will accept donations of money and non-perishable food for distribution to area food banks.
Northwest Harvest provides free food to 14 member food banks and meal programs in Edmonds, Everett, Darrington, Granite Falls, Lynnwood, Marysville, Monroe, Mountlake Terrace, Snohomish and Sultan.
Donations made up about 80 percent of the more than 18 million pounds of food Northwest Harvest received last year. Washington’s only state-wide hunger-relief agency, it helps supply 300 member food banks and meal programs in 35 counties.
While some programs use only a small percentage of Northwest Harvest food, others depend on the agency for 100 percent of their provisions.
