Fire planning meeting coming up

Snohomish County Fire District 7 will hold a strategic planning meeting from 6-9 p.m. July 13. All adult residents of the district can participate.

In this meeting, the district is looking for comments about service priorities and expectations. Residents can register by visiting www.firedistrict7.com and clicking on the community meeting button, or calling 425-486-1217 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays and ask to be placed on the roster.

The meeting is at district headquarters, 8010 180th St. SE in Clearview.

District 1 names new deputy chief

Gary Aleshire has joined Snohomish County Fire District 1 as deputy chief of emergency medical services and training.

Aleshire comes to Fire District 1 from Lakewood Fire District 2 in Pierce County where his 26-year career included 17 years as the division chief for emergency medical services.

The Tacoma native has been active in state emergency medical services organizations. He serves as vice president of the Western Fire Chiefs and will become president of the association next year.

Fire District 1 serves areas west and to the north and east of Mill Creek.

Classics wanted for upcoming car show

The city of Mill Creek is seeking owners of classic and exotic cars to take part in a car show before the Aug. 11 concert in the park featuring The New Blues Brothers.

Participants can bring their cars to City Hall between 5:30 and 6 p.m. and show them. The event isn’t an official car show, so there are no entry fees.

Rescue Pup in need of donations

Rescue Pup, a Mill Creek-based non-profit organization that finds homes for stray sick and injured dogs, regularly needs donations to cover veterinary expenses.

Donations can be made at Pet Pleasers, a pet supply store operated by Rescue Pup, which is located at the corner of 9th Avenue SE and 164th Street SE.

In addition to donations, the organization also needs volunteers to serve as foster homes for dogs it receives.

DARE chocolate shield fund raiser

Mill Creek police are selling police department chocolate shields for $2 to benefit the DARE program.

The shields were made from a mold that was designed with the Mill Creek water wheel and the words “Mill Creek Police.”

The shields can be purchased at the police department’s service counter inside City Hall, 15728 Main St.
