A bridge marathon to benefit the Carol Rowe Food Bank housed in the Edmonds United Methodist Church will take place from October of this year through March 2007.
The schedule calls for two-person teams to be assigned to a group of eight pairs in round-robin fashion. Players will schedule a date, time and location suitable to them. Teams will play once a month.
The $10 entry fee benefits the food bank.

genealogy society
A genealogy specialist with the Seattle Public Library will discuss how to locate and use digitalized library records during the next meeting of the Sno-Isle Genealogical Society at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, in the Lynnwood Library.
The library, a new location for the meeting, is located at 19200 44th Ave. W. in Lynnwood.
At 6 p.m., Margaret Summitt will meet with genealogists of all skill levels to work on breaking through “brick walls” in their genealogical research.

Meth abets crisis
in foster system
Due to the impact of methamphetamine on families, the number of children entering foster care in this area is at an all-time high and foster homes are urgently needed, according to Julianna Kindlund-Carpenter, Region 3 Coordinator for Foster and Adoptive Home Recruitment.
The state has about 6,200 foster homes, yet more than 16,000 children a year go through the foster system, she said.

AquaSox give shirts to charity
The Everett AquaSox minor-league baseball team raised $1,375 for United Way of Snohomish County from an auction of team jerseys during a recent Volunteer Appreciation Night game.
The Seattle Mariners affiliate auctioned 32 team jerseys to earn money for the not-for-profit United Way. “We are a community-based team and we firmly believe in giving back to our community,” said Brian Sloan, AquaSox general manager.
