Haines named Shoreline Star

The City of Shoreline announces that Charlotte Haines has been selected as a Shoreline Star and will be the fifth Star honored at a 7:30 p.m May 9 Shoreline City Council meeting.

As a Shoreline Star, Haines is being honored for her contribution to the Shoreline community. She has been involved with various organizations, including the original City Transition Team, the North City Neighborhood Association and the Shoreline Water District. Haines is one of 12 Shoreline Stars to be honored at upcoming City Council meetings between now and August 15.

Wastewater Dist. to begin upgrade

Ronald Wastewater District and Shoreline Water District will hold a joint open house 7-9 p.m. May 16 to answer questions regarding a sanitary sewer mainline upgrade project in North City, at Shoreline Water District’s office, 1519 NE 177th St, Shoreline. Ronald Wastewater District, the special purpose district providing sanitary sewer service to the city of Shoreline, will begin its 15th Avenue NE. sanitary sewer mainline upgrade project in the North City neighborhood on May 9.

Buno Construction, the contractor for the project with a bid of $287,740.00, will complete work by the end of July. The contractor will begin at NE. 170th Street and proceed north to NE. 177th Street., primarily on the east side of 15th Avenue NE. The district is timing its project to take advantage of the city of Shoreline’s street improvement project so as to avoid as much disruption to the area as possible.

Cottage housing meeting set

Residents are invited to join city staff and neighbors for a presentation and discussion of cottage housing 7-9:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 11 at Shoreline Fire Dept. Headquarters meeting room, 17525 Aurora Ave. N.

LFP Police to demo Taser and show K9

The Lake Forest Park Public Safety Commission presents a program 7-9 p.m. May 11 at Third Place Commons, 17171 Bothell Way, for residents to meet the city’s K9 Police Officer, “Dakota” and his handler Police Officer Pete Lazarou, who will give a live demonstration on how Dakota detects hidden narcotics and assists the police in clearing houses or apartments of drugs. There will also be a physical demonstration on the latest technology in “less-lethal force,” and Chief of Police Dennis Peterson along with Police Officers Dave Harkness and Red Parrish will be giving a live demonstration on the safety and effectiveness of the Taser Gun. Hip-hop dance tickets available

Join local hip-hop artists Invazn, Loe &Sonny ill and DJ OnPoint and the Shoreline / South County Family YMCA for “Higher Learning,” a series of all ages teen dances. Doors open at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 7 at the Shoreline / South County Family YMCA, 1220 NE. 175th St., Shoreline. Tickets are $5 at the door and will include a raffle ticket for door prizes. A portion of the proceeds support teen programs such as Hang Time, Just Us Girls, Anger Management, Youth &Government, Youth Council and Late Night.

Wanted: kids born in August 1995

On August 31, 2005, the city of Shoreline will be 10 years old. As part of the 10-Year Anniversary and Celebrate Shoreline festivities, the city is looking for children born in Shoreline during the month of August 1995 and who have lived here for all 10 years, to be a part of the event.

The children are invited to march in the Celebrate Shoreline parade, have their names displayed at the festival and will also receive an “I’m a 10 in Shoreline” T-shirt to wear in the parade.
