Don’t make rash Easter purchases
Think twice, or three times, before purchasing a live bunny, duckling or chick as an Easter gift, the Humane Society of the United States recently announced. Those animals grow up and need daily attention, like any other pet.
Each year after Easter, animal shelters are inundated with bunnies, ducklings and chicks surrendered by people who bought them on a whim. Many are put down because of a lack of people willing to adopt them.
Some people release them into the wild. Unable to fend for themselves, these animals usually die of starvation, of exposure, or become lunch for other animals, the society said.

Naval civilians can enter the base
The Navy recently started a new program that allows retired civilian employees of U.S. naval bases to receive an identification card that will permit them access to military bases.

Retired employees need to submit requests through a base human resources office before security officials will issue an identification card. Retirees need to bring a copy of their retirement notice of personnel action (SF-50) or proof that they are receiving a retirement annuity.
