Cat show in Shoreline

Earth Day ‘Plant-in’ activities set

Sno-King Environmental Council, Shoreline Chamber of Commerce and the city of Shoreline, as well as other area entities, are teaming up on a project for Earth Day 2005 from April 22-23. Residents are encouraged to participate and help plant about 200 native wetland trees and shrubs in parks and natural areas.

• Friday, April 22, school groups such as Room Nine Community School, Shorewood FBLA, and neighbors will plant a native species in Bruggers Bog on NE. 25th Street.

• Saturday, April 23, neighbors and plant stewards will convene at several locations to improve local parks.

In Edmonds, a Sno-King group will meet at Pineridge Park, at 204th SW. In Shoreline, neighbors will do their part at Darnell Park (N. 165th Street, next to interurban trail) 10-4 p.m. In Lake Forest Park, neighbors will meet at Grace Cole Nature Park, 9-12 a.m. 30th Avenue NE. and NE. 165th (off 28th Avenue) (barbecue lunch at City Hall).

Participants are encouraged to bring their own gardening gloves and tools. Albertsons food stores and others will provide snacks.

Celebrate Earth Day at yard event

In celebration of Earth Day 2005, the city of Shoreline and Central Market invite residents to explore natural yard care for use year-round.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at Central Market (15505 Westminster N.), residents will be able to sample natural yard care products and learn simple techniques that will reduce pollution and save money.

Fund-raiser for cancer walk

Residents are invited to an evening of fun, dancing and door prizes. A fund-raiser is sponsored by a group of Meridian Park Elementary School teachers, who have formed a team to walk in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk to raise money for breast cancer.

The team, “Teachers who Triumph” will be holding a dance benefit at Club Hollywood from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, April 24. The “Phantoms Rockin’ Blues Band” will present “Rockin’ for the Cure.” Tickets are $10 each and proceeds will go to the Breast Cancer 3-day.
