Terrace debates fireworks ban
The city of Mountlake Terrace is hosting a town hall meeting next month so that city residents can discuss whether they want to ban fireworks. The event is set for 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, at Mountlake Terrace High School.
Currently, the city of Mountlake allows legal fireworks to be discharged within city limits at certain times during the Fourth of July holiday.
If the council adopts a fireworks ban before July 4, the ban would not take effect until 2007.
The city has received 1,129 responses from a citizens survey that was sent out to citizens in the city utility billing in late October. Of those responses, 644 respondents were in favor of banning legal fireworks (57 percent) and 485 were in favor of retaining current laws (43 percent).
