Benefit, auction for orphaned child

Salon Vici in Mill Creek will have a silent auction and will donate all proceeds from services from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Sunday, Dec. 5, to help the son of a stylist who died suddenly on Nov. 13.

Shawn Swensen, 39, suffered a seizure and died in her Mill Creek-area home, leaving a 5-year-old son, Cormac. Swensen had no life insurance, and Salon Vici staff created the fund-raiser to help her son, who is being adopted by his grandparents.

Silent auction items include soccer lessons, gift baskets and a ride-along with a Snohomish County Sheriff’s Deputy.

Salon Vici is located in the Edgewater Building, 16000 Mill Creek Blvd., next to the sheriff’s office south precinct. For more information, call 425-483-8866.

In addition, the Shawn Swensen Memorial Fund has been set up at the Mill Creek Bank of America branch.

Garden Club holiday party

The Mill Creek Garden Club will hold its annual holiday party and program at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7 at the Mill Creek Country Club, 15500 Country Club Dr.

Henrietta Price will give a presentation on “Hatitute” with her collection of hats and vocalist Shelley Logan will perform.

The club’s annual dues are $20. The cost for luncheons is $17 for members and $20 for guests. For reservations or more information, call Pat McClure at 425-316-8510.

Two subdivisions

go before county

A pair of proposed subdivisions in the Mill Creek area are going before the Snohomish County Hearing Examiner for review next week.

The Meadowbrooke subdivision, a 10.72-acre plat with 77 proposed single-family homes, will be discussed at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7. The project is located on the east side of 35th Avenue SE at 162nd Place SE.

Bellemont Heights, a 70-lot, 14.75-acre plat, is up for a re-zone at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8. The project is located between 212th and 215th streets SE, east of 39th Avenue SE.

Both hearings take place in the hearing examiner’s office, 2802 Wetmore Ave., in Everett.

Holiday dinner and mission auction

Hope Community Church is holding a holiday dinner at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5. There is a suggested donation of $5 for dinner. The mission auction has many items to be auctioned off both silently and live immediately following the dinner. The church is located at 17723 44th Ave. W. in Lynnwood.

The event is a mission’s fund raiser to send church missionaries to build houses for the poor in Tijuana, Mexico. Each house costs $800 and the team hopes to build five houses in April of 2005.

Anti-hate-crime service planned

Advent Lutheran Church, 4306 132nd St. SE in Mill Creek, will hold a community worship service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4 to respond to recent hate crimes in Snohomish County.

Enterprise food drive wrapping up

The Enterprise Newspapers are conducting a food drive to benefit area food banks.

Donors can bring canned and non-perishable food items from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays to The Enterprise office, 4303 198th St. SW, Lynnwood, until Friday, Dec. 10.

Donations needed for Rescue Pup

Rescue Pup, a Mill Creek-based non-profit organization that finds homes for stray sick and injured dogs, regularly needs donations to cover veterinary expenses.

Donations can be made at Pet Pleasers, a non-profit pet supply store the organization operates. Pet Pleasers is located next to Claire’s Pantry at the corner of 9th Avenue SE and 164th Street SE.

DARE chocolate shield fund raiser

Mill Creek police are selling police department chocolate shields for $2 to benefit the DARE program.

The shields were made from a mold that was designed with the Mill Creek water wheel and the words “Mill Creek Police.” The shields can be purchased at the police department’s service counter inside City Hall, 15728 Main St.
