Scooter public hearing is Oct. 12

The Mill Creek City Council will have a public hearing regarding a proposed ordinance regulating motorized scooters.

The proposed regulations would set the minimum age for riding a motorized scooter as 16 and would require helmets, among other requirements. A copy of the ordinance will be available Monday, Oct. 4.

The hearing is set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12 at Mill Creek City Hall, 15728 Mill Creek Blvd. For more information, call 425-745-1891.

Water aerobics class is starting up

The city of Mill Creek is offering an eight-week water aerobics class on Saturdays from 10-10:45 a.m. starting Oct. 2. The program takes place at the West Coast Aquatic Center (formally Mill Creek Swim Club).

Class fees are $46 for non-residents and $40 for Mill Creek residents. Drop-in cards are available to purchase at Mill Creek City Hall. Registration forms are available at City Hall, 15728 Mill Creek Blvd., or at www.cityofmillcreek.com.

Police taking part in charitable event

Police officers from Mill Creek and Lynnwood will appear at the Alderwood Mall Red Robin restaurant on Saturday, Oct. 2 as part of the statewise Tip-A-Cop fund raiser, with all proceeds going to the athletes of Special Olympics Washington.

Officers will assist restaurant staff by bussing tables and will ask customers to place a tip for Special Olympics. Mill Creek officers taking part are detective Chris White and community policing officer Michele Pellettieri.

The restaurant is located at 18410 33rd Ave. W., across from the Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood. The event runs from 12 noon until 8 p.m.

Items sought for District 1 auction

Firefighters at Snohomish County Fire District 1 are seeking donations for their Holiday Harvest auction to benefit the Fire 1 Foundation.

The foundation is a nonprofit organization founded by employees of Fire District 1 to support fire department activities and the communities served by Fire District 1. The auction will provide funding for a variety of programs, such as establishing a public access defibrillation program and establish a community assistance program.

The auction is the evening of Nov. 20 at the Embassy Suites in Lynnwood. Businesses or individuals who would like to donate items for the auction or purchase tickets for dinner and auction ($40 per person) can contact Leslie Hynes at 425-551-1243.

Donations needed for Rescue Pup

Rescue Pup, a Mill Creek-based non-profit organization that finds homes for sick and injured dogs, regularly needs donations to cover veterinary expenses.

Donations can be made at Pet Pleasers, a non-profit pet supply store the organization operates. Pet Pleasers is located next to Claire’s Pantry at the corner of 9th Avenue SE and 164th Street SE.
