County budget talks with Reardon

Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon will outline his 2005 budget during the meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18 at Edmonds Community College, Room 105 in Brier Hall. The meeting will be the second such session Reardon has scheduled around the County. Other budget forums will be scheduled in Mill Creek, Marysville, Snohomish, Stanwood, Lake Stevens, Monroe, Mountlake Terrace, Bothell and Mukilteo during October and early November.

Johnie Dunn honored for idea

City of Lynnwood employee Johnie Dunn, a lead worker in the city’s public’s works department, was honored by the City Council recently after his innovative suggestion saved the city’s 176th Street project $8,000.

Dunn had an idea to use a high-pressure water hose to cut a thinner trench for laying pipe for drinking water. Not only did the idea save the city money, but it also insured less travel disruption time for the general public in that area. Dunn has worked for Lynnwood since 1993.

A free child car seat clinic is being offered from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 at Fire District 1’s Mariner Fire Station, 12310 Meridian Avenue, Everett. No appointment is necessary. Allow 30 minutes per car seat, and bring car seat instructions and vehicle owner’s manual. Getting muddy at the Family Center

The South Snohomish County Family Support Center recently received a generous donation of volunteers and materials to create a Serenity Garden in its front yard. The garden’s base is dirt and is getting quite muddy and could use some beauty bark and the grass area of the yard is beyond repair and could use some new sod. Lynnwood City Center hearing

Lynnwood’s next public hearing on its City Center proposals is at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at the City Council Chambers 19100 44th Avenue W in Lynnwood. The City Council will hear from the public over issues such as building height restrictions, amendments to the comprehensive plan, development regulations, capital facilities plan and design guidelines for the proposed future City Center- planned for 198th Street SW and its surrounding areas. Where should library funds go?

What is the most valuable library product or service? And how would you like to see funding for library services allocated?

Those questions and many others will be posed at four public meetings the Sno-Isle Libraries is hosting throughout the Library District this month. Participants will be able to log their votes to a handful of questions, and see the room results instantly. This new interactive technology is provided by the Association of Washington Cities. The meeting scheduled for the Mountlake Terrace library is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21 at the Mountlake Terrace Library, 23200 block of 58th Ave. W. in Mountlake Terrace (next to the City Hall. In addition to the public meetings, library users may visit the Sno-Isle web site at www.sno-isle.org and participate in the informal survey online. The online survey will be available Oct. 18-22.

Boys &Girls Club new teen center

The Alderwood Boys &Girls Club had a grand opening for their new teen center on Sept. 29. The new teen center consists of a multimedia entertainment system, computers, furniture, pool, foos ball and ping pong. The teen center will be open to kids in grades 7-12. Lost a bike or have it stolen?

The Mountlake Terrace Police Department’s evidence room is overflowing with lost or stolen and found bicycles.

Police officials there said folks don’t always think to report their bicycles missing to police and also don’t think to call area police departments to check if they’ve been found. So by the end of the summer police department’s have several bicycles that if not claimed would be auctioned off.

When calling a police department to inquire about a lost or stolen bicycle be prepared to have a full description of the bike and the registration information if you have it and an approximate date the bike was found missing.

Mountlake Terrace residents wishing to register their bicycle, skateboard or motorized scooter can do so for free at the Mountlake Terrace Police Department.

Lynnwood festivals panel needs you

The City of Lynnwood is seeking applicants for an opening on the Festivals Fund Review Panel. Panel members review qualifying grant applications and make funding recommendations to the executive office within the amount of funds annually budgeted for the Festivals Fund.

Citizens can now go to a new website, www.courts.wa.gov, and look up their court dates by clicking on “find your court date” and entering a valid name or case number.

All courts in Washington including Lynnwood Municipal and South Snohomish County District Court are on the site except for Seattle Municipal Court.

Given that court proceedings may be rescheduled at any time, official said, users are encouraged to call their local court the morning of their appearance. An automated court directory is also available online via the Washington Courts website, combined with a “Courthouse Locator” which provides maps and directions to every courthouse throughout Washington State. Food banks need volunteers

Concern For Neighbors Food Bank in Mountlake Terrace needs people who can drive a truck (yours or theirs) and helpers who can ride along to pick up food during the week. Call 425-778-7227 message phone and leave your name.

Other area food banks: Lynnwood (425-745-1635) and Edmonds (425-778-5833) need people who can help sort and pass out food on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday or just show up at one of the locations and offer your services. MLT and Edmonds Monday-Tuesday 8 AM until Noon. Lynnwood- Wednesday Noon until 6PM

Donate an old cell phone for safety

Project Donate a Phone is back on and the need is high, say officials for The Snohomish County Center for Battered Women.

The center is in need of old or new cellular phones, even ones with missing parts can help, Center officials said. Usable cell phones will be provided free to all women who use the center’s services. In case of emergency old phones can still be used to dial 911. The ones that can’t be used will be recycled to a business who has agreed to pay the non-profit organization for parts. To donate phones, drop them off at the Mountlake Terrace Police Department at 5906 232nd St. SW. For more information call Terri or Vicci at 425-259-2827.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Snohomish County have started a car donation program. Funds from the program will benefit the activities of the Boys and Girls Clubs. For more information call 1-800-246-0493.
