9/11 attacks remembered

Susan Vanek, soprano soloist of the St. Dunstan’s Parish choir, will sing two solos at the 9:30 a.m. service on Sunday, Sept. 12, to commemorate the third anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington, DC.

Everyone is invited to the worship service and a free picnic will follow on the church grounds.

St. Dunstan’s Parish is located on the Seattle-Shoreline city limits between Aurora Avenue and Greenwood Avenue at 722 North 145th Street. Several major bus routes serve the area.

There is free parking in two lots. The building is handicapped accessible. A map is available on the parish Web site, http://www.st-dunstans-episcopal.us/. For further information, call St. Dunstan’s Parish at 206-363-4319 or send e-mail to office@st-dunstans-episcopal.us.

Northwest natural yard days

Get your yard ready for fall and winter at the September sale of organic fertilizer and compost.

King County is partnering with local government agencies, lawn and garden stores, nurseries and manufacturers to offer discounts on Compost and Organic fertilizers.

The partnership comes after a Federal ruling that affects how residents garden. In January 2004, a Federal District Judge banned the use of dozens of pesticides near salmon bearing streams.

Soil health is important because it is part of a balanced, sustainable environment. Healthy soil is critical to good air and water quality and to the health of our lawns and gardens.

Enjoy skate time for youth

The Shoreline parks, recreation and cultural services department is offering a youth skate program scheduled 8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturdays beginning Sept. 11 through October.

The program will be at Connie King Skate Park, located at NE 155th Street and Eighth Avenue NE.

The free program, called Youth Skate, is a time specifically set aside for parents to bring their children ages 11 or younger to the skate park.

City briefs can be sent to shoreline@heraldnet.com or mailed to 4303 198th St. SW. Lynnwood, Wash. 98036.
