Coat and blanket drive taking place

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post is having a coat and blanket drive through Nov. 12. All proceeds will benefit the Center for Battered Women and Children and the Everett Gospel Mission.

New and gently-used coats and blankets can be dropped off at the Sheriff’s Office South Precinct, 15928 Mill Creek Blvd., in Mill Creek.

Veteran officer leaving Mill Creek

Fred Havener, a 13-year veteran of the Mill Creek Police Department, is leaving the city to accept a position as a patrol sergeant with the city of Snohomish Police Department.

Havener has served in patrol, investigations, field training and as officer in charge during his tenure with Mill Creek. His last day at work for Mill Creek is today, Friday, Oct. 22.

New Starbucks sets opening date

The new Starbucks location in Mill Creek Town Center will open Dec. 10, it was announced at Tuesday’s meeting of the Mill Creek Business Association.

The 2,200-square-foot location is under construction next to Central Market on the south end of Main Street.

Eat a meal for Sharing Wheels

Dine at McMenamin’s brew pub in Mill Creek on Monday, Oct. 25 and help keep bike programs rolling for low-income children and adults in Snohomish County.

Half of all dinner proceeds Monday night will go toward the Everett-based non-profit Sharing Wheels, which recycles bicycles in the community. This season, volunteers are working to prepare 100 donated bikes for Christmas House, which serves needy families. McMenamin’s is located at 13300 Bothell-Everett Highway in Mill Creek.

No Nov. 2 City Council meeting

The Mill Creek City Council will not have a study session Nov. 2 because of the general election.

Donations needed for Rescue Pup

Rescue Pup, a Mill Creek-based non-profit organization that finds homes for sick and injured dogs, regularly needs donations to cover veterinary expenses.

Donations can be made at Pet Pleasers, a non-profit pet supply store the organization operates. Pet Pleasers is located next to Claire’s Pantry at the corner of 9th Avenue SE and 164th Street SE.
