Main Street work begins on Monday

Construction of the Main Street extension is expected to begin Monday, July 12.

The project will rebuild the current cul-de-sac just off Mill Creek Boulevard in front of Mill Creek City Hall and provide a new road connection into Mill Creek Town Center.

Kemper Construction is the project’s contractor. The road is expected to open Sept. 14.

Information regarding how areas of unincorporated Snohomish County can annex to the city of Mill Creek has been posted on the city’s Web site, www.cityofmillcreek.com.

Materials include the PowerPoint presentation city staff made at a June 30 community meeting at Heatherwood Middle School, as well as a list of frequently asked questions and their answers.

City employees receive honors

All five members of the city of Mill Creek’s finance department, Kristin Anderson, Anne Compaan, Jodie Gunderson, Kathy Hundahl and Joanne Gregory, earned their professional finance officer awards for 2004.

Personnel can receive the Washington Finance Officers Association award, which is based on participation in continuing education efforts and professional development.

Garden tour tickets available

Tickets for the Mill Creek Area Garden Tour are being sold through the Mill Creek Garden Club.

The event will tour seven gardens in various styles and ages. Garden Art created by a well-known local craftsman will be for sale at one of the gardens.

The event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 17. Tickets are $12 and a limited number are available. Send a stamped self addressed envelope and check made out to Mill Creek Garden Club to: Sharon Mulhall, c/o Mill Creek Garden Club, 16212 24th Drive SE, Mill Creek, Wash., 98012.

Skateboard classes upcoming

The city of Mill Creek will be holding a beginning skateboard from 10 a.m. to noon Monday and Wednesday, July 26 and 28 at the Mill Creek Skate Park, 13903 North Creek Drive.

The instructor, Aaron Fox, has been skateboarding for 15 years and performs in skateboard exhibitions around the area.

Youth theater camp coming up

The city of Mill Creek is presenting a Happy Endings Musical Theatre Camp starting July 19. Camps will be held for two weeks, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mill Creek Elementary School. These camps are open to children entering grades 3 to 8.

The camp is two weeks of learning songs, dance routines, building stage confidence, and preparation to perform a musical for family, friends and the community during the camp. Experience is not required. Classes are taught by Connie Gagnon and Dana Heinz-Skaggs. Cost is $160.

Water line work closes traffic lane

One traffic lane on 183rd Street SE just west of the Bothell-Everett Highway is closed so a water main can be installed.

The closure will be in effect between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. until Aug. 2.

Sewer work closes one traffic lane

Work on a sewer line extension has closed one lane of 13th Drive SE south of 196th Street SE south of Mill Creek until July 18.

The closure is in effect from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Donations needed for Rescue Pup

Rescue Pup, a Mill Creek-based non-profit organization that finds homes for stray sick and injured dogs, regularly needs donations to cover veterinary expenses.

Donations can be made at Pet Pleasers, a non-profit pet supply store the organization operates. Pet Pleasers is located next to Claire’s Pantry at the corner of 9th Avenue SE and 164th Street SE.

DARE chocolate shield fund raiser

Mill Creek police are selling police department chocolate shields for $2 to benefit the DARE program.

The shields were made from a mold that was designed with the Mill Creek water wheel and the words “Mill Creek Police.” The shields can be purchased at the police department’s service counter inside City Hall, 15728 Mill Creek Blvd.
