Food bank and Office Depot unite
The Office Depot in Lynnwood is having a non-perishable food drive Thursday, Aug. 12 through Friday, Aug. 20.
According to Lynnwood food bank officials, the Lynnwood food bank has been providing food supplements to the poor in Lynnwood for more than 25 years and collects and distributes about 1,347,942 pounds of food each year to low income children, adults and seniors.
The Lynnwood food bank currently serves an average of 1,004 households (average 3,726 individuals) each month.
To make a donation, go to Office Depot or contact Judy Finn at 425-745-1635. The Lynnwood foodbank is located at 5326 176th Street SW in Lynnwood, behind the Church of the Nazarene.
Have rummage, need sale?
Terrace View Presbyterian Church in Mountlake Terrace is having a different kind of rummage sale Friday Aug. 20 and Saturday Aug. 21. They are offering citizens, such as those who reside in areas where rummage sales aren’t allowed, to buy a table to sell their wares at the church’s advertised sale. Table cost is $15 each and the church is located at 4700 228th St. SW in Mountlake Terrace. Crafters are invited as well. For more information call Dolores at 425-771-9486.
Third annual
Brier Seascare
The city’s third annual Seascare Festival and Brier Realty Porch Light Parade is scheduled 7 p.m. Aug. 11. Hatched as an idea to replace Brierfest, the Park Board got creative and developed this festival centered around the business core of Brier, city officials said. All are welcome to join the parade. The theme is scary sea creatures, octopi, pirates, boats, nautical or any sea related idea.
All kids, classic car owners and anyone with a great parade idea are encouraged to participate. And, there will be prizes. Register for the parade online at www.ci.brier.wa.us/seascare. At 6 p.m. is the parade check-in and line up. Check in will be on the north side of 232nd on Brier Road. At 7 p.m. the parade begins at the library (232nd) and moves south down Brier Road ending just past Brier Realty (238th).
Don’t forget the Brier Realty Kids Carnival, food drive, book sale and local business trade show from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. During these times, Brier businesses will be selling some items at discount prices. At 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 11 there will be an Outdoor Cinema event sponsored by Neapolis and Brier Grocery. Reverend Chumleigh comes to town again with this classic SeaScare theme movie “Atlantis, The Lost Continent.” There will be a cartoon intro then the movie. Bring lawn chairs to the Neapolis parking lot.

Local firefighter calendar unveiling
Washington State Council Firefighters Burn Foundation presents the 2005 Firefighter Calendar Release Party at 7:30 p.m. tonight, Friday, Aug. 6. The annual event will be at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue.
Tickets can be purchased at the door.General admission tickets are for $25 for 21 and older.
The event will unveil the firefighters who made the cut for the 10th annual firefighter calendar which contains the “all stars” of the past 10 years. It includes Lynnwood firefighters Kevin Miller and Bryan Youngman along with firefighters from Shoreline and Bothell, among others. This will be the calendar’s first public debut.
The night consists of an unveiling of the calendar and the firefighters who grace it’s pages, and calendar signing time with the firefighters themselves, followed by an auction of the shirts off their backs and posters —all proceeds go directly to the Burn Foundation.

Citizens can now go to a new website, www.courts.wa.gov, and look up their court dates by clicking on “find your court date” and entering a valid name or case number.
All courts in Washington including Lynnwood Municipal and South Snohomish County District Court are on the site except for Seattle Municipal Court.
Given that court proceedings may be rescheduled at any time, official said, users are encouraged to call their local court the morning of their appearance. An automated court directory is also available online via the Washington Courts website, combined with a “Courthouse Locator” which provides maps and directions to every courthouse throughout Washington State. Need to go to the dump?
The Southwest Recycling and Transfer Station in Mountlake Terrace was closed on March 16, 2003 for a major remodel. The facility will reopen in early fall 2004. Call 425-388-3425 if you have questions or need more information on other disposal sites.
Donate an old cell phone for safety
Project Donate a Phone is back on and the need is high, say officials for The Snohomish County Center for Battered Women.
The center is in need of old or new cellular phones, even ones with missing parts can help, Center officials said. Usable cell phones will be provided free to all women who use the center’s services. In case of emergency old phones can still be used to dial 911. The ones that can’t be used will be recycled to a business who has agreed to pay the non-profit organization for parts. To donate phones, drop them off at the Mountlake Terrace Police Department at 5906 232nd St. SW. For more information call Terri or Vicci at 425-259-2827.
Memories of
Terrace wanted
There’s a whole lot of history in Mountlake Terrace, and the City’s Historical Committee is looking for people with stories to tell, memories to share, and pictures to show. As part of the City’s 50th Birthday celebration, the Historical Committee is contacting long-time residents and those who remember the City’s incorporation to gather their stories and recollections. The Committee plans to display the collection in the library for all to enjoy during the year-long celebration. A book of the remembrances to honor the City will be published at the end of 2004.
