Building inspector earns city honor

The city of Mill Creek announced last week that building inspector Scott Johnson was named Employee of the Quarter for the period of April to June, 2004.

Johnson was described as an employee who always maintains a good attitude and ensures he is consistent with research and inspections.

Employees of the quarter are nominated and selected by city employees based on various criteria.

Silver Firs garage sale coming up

The Silver Firs Phase II Homeowner’s Association will have its semi-annual neighborhood garage sale Sept. 18.

The garage sale is open to the public. The Silver Firs neighborhoods are located along Puget Park Drive and 148th Drive SE east of Mill Creek.

Rescue Pup rummage sale

Rescue Pup, a Mill Creek based non-profit organization that treats and finds homes for sick, abandoned dogs, is having its annual rummage sale to finance veterinary expenses.

The sale takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, Friday, Aug. 20, and tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 21, at 18001 Bothell-Everett Highway, a location next to Pounders restaurant on the corner of 180th Street SE and the Bothell-Everett Highway.

Volunteers needed for design board

The city of Mill Creek needs volunteers to fill spaces on its Design Review Board.

The Design Review Board reviews all building permit applications except for detached single-family residences.

Board members should be architects, landscape architects, urban planners or involved in similar professions. Members do not need to be Mill Creek residents. Meetings are held the third Thursday of every month at 5:15 p.m.

Applicants can send a letter to: Sherrie Ringstad, City of Mill Creek, 15728 Mill Creek Blvd., Mill Creek, Wash. 98012, or deliver to City Hall no later than 5 p.m. Aug. 31.

Parks board members needed

The city of Mill Creek needs volunteers to fill three spaces on its Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.

The board serves as an advisory body to the City Council and administrative staff on issues such as concerning park improvements, facility use fees and procedures, and park, play field and facility design. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. Members must be residents of the city of Mill Creek.

DARE chocolate shield fund raiser

Mill Creek police are selling police department chocolate shields for $2 to benefit the DARE program.

The shields were made from a mold that was designed with the Mill Creek water wheel and the words “Mill Creek Police.” The shields can be purchased at the police department’s service counter inside City Hall, 15728 Mill Creek Blvd.
