Reagan memorial is today in Bothell

A public memorial service for President Ronald Reagan will take place at 3 p.m. today, Friday, June 11 at Cedar Park Assembly of God Church, 16300 112th Ave. NE, Bothell.

The service falls on what President George W. Bush declared a national day of mourning for Reagan, who died Saturday, June 5. All federal offices, including the post office, will be closed today.

State offices, however, are open for business, as is Mill Creek City Hall and all public schools. In addition, Community Transit buses will operate on regular weekday schedules.

Hearing on Cougar Park next week

The Mill Creek Planning Commission will have a public hearing at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 17 at city hall, 15728 Mill Creek Blvd., regarding Cougar Park.

The hearing’s purpose is consideration of an application for a conditional use permit for a five-acre neighborhood park in the Brighton neighborhood.

Improvements proposed include: 13,068 square feet of lawn, restroom and picnic shelter building, barbecue grill, drinking fountain, 1,354 linear feet of hard surface and soft surface trails, 29,150 square feet of play toy area, landscaping and irrigation, and a 3,953 square foot concrete plaza.

Local headed to convention

Mill Creek resident Jerauld Miller, former chair of the Snohomish County Republican Party, is one of seven county residents going to New York for the Republican National Convention Aug. 30 through Sept. 2.

Miller was chosen as a delegate from the 1st Congressional District at the recent state convention in Bellevue.

Business group meets Tuesday

The next Mill Creek Business Association Meeting is scheduled for noon, Tuesday, June 15 at Mill Creek city hall, 15728 Mill Creek Blvd.

This meeting will be dedicated to discussion of the upcoming “Meet Me in Mill Creek” Festival scheduled for Saturday, July 10.

The business association is still seeking businesses and non-profit organizations interested in having a booth at the festival. Confirmed activities this year include square dancing, an antique hot rod show, a demonstration by Snohomish County Fire District 7 and a dunk tank.

Youth theater camps coming up

The city of Mill Creek presents two Happy Endings Musical Theatre Camps starting June 21 and July 19. Both camps will be held for two weeks, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mill Creek Elementary School. These camps are open to children entering grades 3 to 8.

The camps are two weeks of learning songs, dance routines, building stage confidence and preparation to perform a musical for family, friends and the community during the camp. Experience is not required. Classes are taught by Connie Gagnon and Dana Heinz-Skaggs. Cost is $160.

Annexation meeting is soon

City of Mill Creek staff will conduct an annexation information meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. June 30 at Heatherwood Middle School’s cafeteria, 1419 Trillium Blvd. SE.

The meeting’s purpose is to provide information on city services, taxation, land use regulation and governance to residents located within the city’s urban growth area, which includes the Heatherwood and Heatherwood West neighborhoods near the Thomas Lake Shopping Center northeast of the city limits, as well as some areas east of 35th Avenue SE, particularly along 132nd Street SE.
