Caregiver counsel in Lynnwood

Community center needs design ideas
The City of Lynnwood Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is presenting design ideas for a new community center and a renovated recreation center at an open house event from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 29 at Lynnwood City Council Chambers. Citizens are invited to attend, ask questions and offer suggestions about the design ideas and planning for the project. Lynnwood Council Chambers is located at 19100 44th Avenue West. The Open House is part of the community center and recreation center feasibility study begun in fall 2003.
An Advisory Committee, comprised of citizens and city staff, is working with the design team consultants on the project. The Design Team includes Northwest Architectural Company, Ohlson Lavoie Collaborative and GreenPlayLLC. Comments from the public at the open house will be considered for the development of the recommended designs for both facilities. The project final report, business plan, design, funding and site recommendations will be completed by mid-autumn 2004.

Seniors model
for a good cause
The Mountlake Terrace Seniors Group will have a luncheon and fashion show from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 26 in the basement of Bethesda Lutheran Church (ground entry level in the back of the church.)
Admission is $5 and includes a salad and dessert buffet with beverage and the fashion show. All proceeds benefit the non-profit senior group. Tickets are available at the door but reservations are encouraged. For more information call 425-672-2407.
Class teaches safe senior driving
AARP Driver Safety Program classes currently are available at several locals. The class is designed to help seniors ages 50 and over with years of driving experience to be safer drivers and possibly receive discounts on car insurance.
The next class is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 23 and 24 at the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St. in Edmonds. Participants must attend both days and pay a $10 materials fee payable to AARP at class time. Advance class registration is required. Instructors for the classes are unpaid volunteers.

Citizens can now go to a new website, www.courts.wa.gov, and look up their court dates by clicking on “find your court date” and entering a valid name or case number.
All courts in Washington including Lynnwood Municipal and South Snohomish County District Court are on the site except for Seattle Municipal Court.
Given that court proceedings may be rescheduled at any time, official said, users are encouraged to call their local court the morning of their appearance. An automated court directory is also available online via the Washington Courts website, combined with a “Courthouse Locator” which provides maps and directions to every courthouse throughout Washington State. summer camp
The Alderwood Boys &Girls Club is currently taking sign ups for 10 weeks of summer daycamp. The camps are open for kids going into kindergarten through 8th grade. The cost is $130 per week for K – 6 and $140 per week for 7th/8th grade. Past field trips have included Woodland Park Zoo, Birch Bay Water Slides, bowling, roller skating, swimming, parks, beaches and the Everett Aqua Sox. Donate an old cell phone for safety
Project Donate a Phone is back on and the need is high, say officials for The Snohomish County Center for Battered Women.
The center is in need of old or new cellular phones, even ones with missing parts can help, Center officials said. Usable cell phones will be provided free to all women who use the center’s services. In case of emergency old phones can still be used to dial 911. The ones that can’t be used will be recycled to a business who has agreed to pay the non-profit organization for parts. To donate phones, drop them off at the Mountlake Terrace Police Department at 5906 232nd St. SW. For more information call Terri or Vicci at 425-259-2827.
Memories of
Terrace wanted
There’s a whole lot of history in Mountlake Terrace, and the City’s Historical Committee is looking for people with stories to tell, memories to share, and pictures to show. As part of the City’s 50th Birthday celebration, the Historical Committee is contacting long-time residents and those who remember the City’s incorporation to gather their stories and recollections. The Committee plans to display the collection in the library for all to enjoy during the year-long celebration. A book of the remembrances to honor the City will be published at the end of 2004. Need to go to the dump?
The Southwest Recycling and Transfer Station in Mountlake Terrace was closed on March 16, 2003 for a major remodel. The facility will reopen in early fall 2004. Call 425-388-3425 if you have questions or need more information on other disposal sites.
