Certified volunteers will be available from 5-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesdays; and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays to help complete basic individual tax returns. Assistance is on a first-come, first-served basis; those needing an interpreter should call 2-1-1 for an appointment. A list of free tax sites in the area also is available by calling 2-1-1.

The free service is sponsored by the Bank of America, the EverTrust Foundation and Moss Adams, along with support from 2-1-1, the Internal Revenue Service and The Boys &Girls Club of Snohomish County.

Program promotes better shoreline living

Waterfront residents concerned with how the long-term value of their property is affected by their actions are invited to join the WSU Extension Services’ free Shore Stewards program.

Stewards receive a booklet outlining simple actions shoreline landowners can take to protect their investment, monthly newsletters and seasonal workshops. The program is designed for beach and shoreline dwellers, farmers and forest owners as well as port districts, cities and businesses with land along shores and streams.

Shore Stewards began on Camano Island in 2002 as a grant-funded pilot program. Today it boasts more than 600 participants.

To learn more about the Shore Steward program, call Chrys Bertolotto at 425-357-6020, e-mail her at chrys@wsu.edu or visit www.shorestewards.org.
