Celebrate Earth Day with activities

In celebration of Earth Day 2004, the City of Shoreline and Central Market invite you to explore natural yard care for use year-round. From 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at Central Market, 15505 Westminster N., Shoreline residents will be able to learn about natural yard care products and simple techniques that will reduce pollution and save money. Volunteers from the King County Master Recycler Composter and the Master Gardener Programs will provide educational resources and answer questions.

Those who attend can learn how to build healthy soil, plant right for your site, practice smart watering, think twice before using pesticides and practice natural lawn care. Free samples of natural yard care products will be available. For more information, contact 206-546-1700.

Park work party for Earth Day

The Paramount Park Neighborhood Group is hosting an Earth Day work party at 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 18th, 147th and Eighth NE. Volunteers will roll up their sleeves and dig in to the Restoration Grant Project. Snacks and tools are provided. For more information, call Janet Way at 206-365-4477.

Farmers bring produce to LFP

This spring marks the second farm season that Lake Forest Park will partner with the Pike Place Market Basket Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). This program connects neighbors directly with local family farms that sell at the Pike Place Market. Members of the Market Basket CSA pay in advance for a share of the harvest and for twenty weeks, from mid-June through the end of October, pick up a bag with vegetables, fresh fruit, berries and other farm products at Third Place Commons, the neighborhood host site.

Shares cost $505, or pay by check for a discounted price of $495. Members can add a flower share for an additional $140 and will also receive a beautiful weekly bouquet. The deadline for applications is May 1. Author to visit Shoreline

The Women of Wisdom Foundation presents Dr. Judith Orloff in a lecture and book-signing on her new book, Positive Energy: Ten Extraordinary Prescriptions for Transforming Fatigue, Stress, and Fear into Vibrancy, Strength and Love, 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 10, at Shoreline Conference Center, 18560 First Ave. NE. Barista Bikini Pageant set

The First annual Miss Seattle Espresso Bikini Pageant is scheduled for 9 p.m. Friday, June 4 at Parkers Casino, 17001 Aurora Ave. N. in Shoreline. Participants must be 18 years old by the date of the event and be employed as a barista. There is no entry fee. Prize money totals $600.
