Reading, writing and creative play classes are among those being offered by the Edmonds Parks and Recreation Department this spring.

Friday Night Out for ages 1-7: Drop off your children in a fun-filled toy room and enjoy a parents’ night out. 6-9 p.m. April 20 or 27. $18.
Pint-Size Princess Party for ages 3-6 with an adult: Make a glittery wand and gem jewelry among other activities. 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. April 28. $18 plus $3 supply fee.
Italic Calligraphy: Improve your skills and creativity through learning this adaptation of a 15th-century script. For beginners and those who need a refresher course. 10 a.m.-noon April 24-June. $75.
Writing Adventures: Flash fiction, collaging, golden moments and other techniques for expressing life’s stories. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. April 21. $45.
Crochet 101: A basic class for beginners or those who need to brush up on basics. Crochet hook and yarn provided. 7-9 p.m. April 19. $18 plus $8 supply fee.
21st Dist. Dems will pick up litter along I-5
The 21st District Democrats will pick up trash between exits 183 and 186 along Interstate 5 beginning at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 14.
All interested persons, regardless of political affiliation, are invited to help. Volunteers should meet at Mariner Park ‘n Ride at 13132 Fourth Ave. W., just south of 128th Street Southwest in Everett.

North Sound hosts ladies tea April 28
North Sound Church will host its annual spring Afternoon Tea at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28 at Community Christian Fellowship, 615 Glen St. in Edmonds.
Among the events planned are a fashion show by Yesterday’s of Edmonds and a talk by gardening enthusiast Peggy Campbell on “The Gardener’s Heart.” High tea also will be served.
Tickets are $10 through April 22 and $15 after that date. They are available by calling Kerry at 206-355-1355 or stopping by North Sound Church at 404 Bell St. in Edmonds.
32nd Dist. Democrats plan bake, plant sale
The 32nd Legislative District Democrats will host a plant and bake sale from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, April 21 in the Innis Arden Clubhouse, 1430 NW 188th St. in Shoreline.
Plants from MSK Nursery will be offered for sale, along with bagged coco mulch, worm tea and castings, glass garden art and garden books. Homemade baked goods also will be sold to raise money for the organization.
YWCA class for the displaced homemaker
A free women’s employment class called “Pathways to Work” will be offered from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m., April 16-27 by the Displaced Homemaker Center of Pathways for Women YWCA.
The course is designed for those who have spent at least 10 years as a homemaker and now find it necessary to earn a living.
