Sewer main fixed

Buno Construction of Snohomish finished replacing the force main pipe at the Terrace Ridge lift pump station this week, said Willem H. Van Ry, the Mountlake Terrace Engineering Services Director. The remaining work, including the restoration of street pavement and other disturbed areas, is expected to be completed in April if weather permits.

The $173,672 project will replace the last of the city’s old asbestos cement force mains. The Terrace Ridge force main is the same pipe that leaked in September and released sewage through a storm drain and into Lyon Creek.

The Terrace Ridge force main is one of several projects the city is undertaking in an ongoing program to replace 40-year-old sewer main pipes throughout the city. The projects are funded by the city’s sewer construction fund, which is replenished by sewer utility fees.

In the spring, the city will seek construction bids for a combined storm and sanitary sewer construction project to reconstruct about 1,500 feet of sewer pipe, install more manholes and other repairs. The estimated cost is $325,000.
