Annual Easter egg hunt is coming up

The third annual spring “Eggstravaganza” Easter egg hunt takes place from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 15 at Heatherwood Middle School, 1419 Trillium Blvd. in Mill Creek.

The free event includes four age-appropriate egg hunts, a jump house, balloon animals, face painting and a magic and puppet show. Participants are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for area food banks.

The city of Mill Creek’s recreation department, along with Canyon Creek Church, are putting on the event. To sponsor the event, call Chris Bailey at 425-745-1891.

Silver Crest Park cleanup event

The city of Mill Creek will hold a cleanup event for Silver Crest Park in conjunction with Earth Day.

The event takes place at 9 a.m. April 22 at the park, located at 13621 28th Drive SE. Silver Crest Park was annexed into the city of Mill Creek on Dec. 1.

Parks board meeting changed

The Mill Creek Parks and Recreation Board will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 12 instead of 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, the city announced Tuesday, March 28.

Pinewood Derby at Cedar Wood

Cub Scout Pack 95 from Cedar Wood Elementary School will have its Pinewood Derby at 7:30 p.m. today, Friday, March 31 at the school’s cafeteria.

All boys between the ages of 5 and 9 who are interested in joining Cub Scouts and their parents are welcome to attend. The school is located at 3414 168th St. SE., just west of 35th Avenue SE., in the Mays Pond area. For more information, call Mike Sharpe at 425-238-0224.

Local Lions Club seeks host families

The Mill Creek Lions Club is looking for volunteer host families, of high moral character, for its Lions Youth Exchange Program for this summer.

Hosting periods are two to three weeks long, and occur at various times from late June to mid-August.

The club has young people coming from Japan, Norway, Belgium, Italy and Finland.

Fitness classes at local swim club

Yoga and Pilates classes are now being offered at the West Coast Family Aquatic Center, 15622 Country Club Drive in Mill Creek.

All classes are designed for beginners through intermediate and are taught by certified instructors. Drop-in fee is $5 per class. For more information call 425-745-3474.

New city recreation guide is available

The city of Mill Creek’s spring and summer recreation guide is now available online at www.cityofmillcreek.com, city hall, the Mill Creek Library and in Mill Creek Living magazine.

Registration is under way. Most classes begin after spring break for local schools, which is April 3-7.

Library literacy grants deadline

The Friends of the Mill Creek Library is awarding grants of up to $1,000 to defray professional development costs to support literacy education and expand literacy services in the community.

Proposed projects may include seminars, courses, conference attendance, or other continuing education endeavors that support professional development.

Applicants must be actively engaged in the provision of literacy services or literacy education and must either live, work or otherwise have ties to the Mill Creek area.

Applicants must mail a resume and cover letter detailing interest in the grant, postmarked by tomorrow, Saturday, April 1 to Grants Committee, Friends of the Mill Creek Library, 15429 Bothell-Everett Highway, Mill Creek, Wash., 98012. Awards will be announced at the June Friends meeting.

Toastmasters club seeks members

The Mill Creek Toastmasters Club, sponsored by the Mill Creek Business Association, is looking for charter members.

The Toastmasters Club meets from noon to 1 p.m. every Wednesday in the conference room at the Mill Creek Country Club, 15500 Country Club Drive.

Child safety seat installations

Snohomish County Fire District 7 offers child safety seat installation. Installation times are by appointment because not all fire stations have a certified child safety seat technician on every shift.

Rescue Pup in need of donations

Rescue Pup, a Mill Creek-based non profit organization that finds homes for stray sick and injured dogs, regularly needs donations to cover veterinary expenses.

Donations can be made at Pet Pleasers, a pet supply store operated by Rescue Pup, which is located at the corner of 9th Avenue SE and 164th Street SE.

In addition to donations, the organization also needs volunteers to serve as foster homes for dogs it receives.

DARE chocolate shield fund raiser

Mill Creek police are selling police department chocolate shields for $2 to benefit the DARE program.

The shields were made from a mold that was designed with the Mill Creek water wheel and the words “Mill Creek Police.” The shields can be purchased at the police department’s service counter inside City Hall, 15728 Main St.
