Shoreline and Lake Forest Park residents were out in full force on Tuesday, Aug. 5, to celebrate the 25th annual National Night Out, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.
Along with Lynnwood, Montlake Terrace and Mill Creek, several local community coalitions and neighborhoods took to the streets and parks for celebration and information on neighborhood watch programs to “give crime a going away party.”
The community reception has been steadily growing in recent years. Shoreline residents Lillian Fanning and Cynthia Thomson attend the event every year. This is Fanning’s fifth National Night Out.
“Each year, people are just so warm and inviting,” she said. “The people that come and share a good time are just wonderful.”
The police and fire departments of both cities were also on hand to promote neighborhood spirit and strengthen the bonds between public safety and the community.
“It’s great to see so many people gather around just to say hi to one another,” Shoreline Police Chief Dan Pingrey said.
