The official dedication and grand opening of Cougar Park will take place at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30.
The park, the city of Mill Creek’s newest one, is located at 32nd Dr. SE. and 148th St. SE., across from Mill Creek Elementary School.
Park amenities include a restroom and covered picnic shelter and two play areas – one designed for toddlers and the other for older children. The Mill Creek Parks and Recreation Board chose Kompan play equipment, which is different from equipment found in other city parks. It has a strong European influence and uses cables, platforms and moving pieces. Another new feature is the climbing rock.
While the children’s play area is open now, the grass area will not be open until later this spring when the sod has had a chance to get established.
The program for Jan. 30 will include remarks by Mayor Donna Michelson and city manager Steve Nolen. The grand opening and ribbon cutting will be followed by refreshments and all children in attendance will be invited to try out the new play equipment. Parking will be available in the Mill Creek Elementary School parking lot.
