How long is the graffiti art show going to run? Do it to a public wall, fence or building (or to private property for that matter) and you can get arrested. This multi-colored spray painting of public surfaces (our streets) is getting out of hand.
Once again our street has been desecrated with bright green spray paint identifying storm drain piping locations by the city of Edmonds utilities people. This assault to our asphalt (it is a private street) is rather minor when compared to the attack on 218th about two years ago when a neighbor went through a major renovation and addition. Reds, blues, greens, yellows and oranges applied by a commercial “locator” identified under-street water, sewer, gas, electrical and communication services to the property for the contractor and his subs. This paint must be very cheap because a lot was used. Some of it is still visible today!
How about a city ordinance that would require all these street and sidewalk painters to return and paint out all the multicolored “location” lines with an appropriate colored gray paint to make them disappear once the project has been completed? The cost of this process would be born mostly by the land owners, the contractors and the commercial locators and may give them incentive to use less paint to begin with.
