Edmonds Community College students Michael Aspen and Sue Z. Hart were honored for their academic achievement March 24 at a statewide ceremony as members of the All-Washington Academic Team.
They will each receive a $750 scholarship and Aspen, as the third-ranked scholar in the state, will receive an additional $1,000.
Aspen, of Arlington, served 24 years in the U.S. Navy before coming to the college to pursue a career in culinary arts. Hart, of Snohomish, is pursuing a degree in business management after a 20-year career in sales.
Each community and technical college in the state nominates two students for the all-academic team award. The top-ranked team member is named the state’s New Century Scholar and joins the All-USA Academic Team for Community, Technical and Junior Colleges.
The annual academic recognition is sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, USA Today and the American Association of Community Colleges. Scholarships are provided by KeyBank and the Northwest Education Loan Association (NELA).
