It was a day when the small park adjoining city hall went to the dogs – literally.

Rescue Pup’s third annual Strut Your Mutt event on Saturday, July 26, drew a variety of breeds to the park, from larger breeds like Mastiffs and Rottweilers to smaller breeds like Pomeranians, and an assortment of mongrels.

The event featured a dog agility course, a dog-owner look-alike contest and a picnic catered by area eateries.

Fred Wax of Lynnwood brought her 9-month-old Rottweiler-Labrador mix, Halja to the event dressed in a belly dancer costume similar to what Wax, an amateur belly dancer, wore. The pair won the dog-owner look-alike contest.

“I discovered Rescue Pup at a pet show,” Wax said about the organization, which provides medical care for abandoned and needy dogs. “We did one of these charity walks before and it was a lot of fun. The dogs have a good time.”

This year’s event drew 100 participants from throughout Snohomish County, one of the larger turnouts the event has had, according to Rescue Pup volunteers.

Overall, the event raised $3,600 in pledges and registration fees for the non-profit organization.

“It was more than we expected,” Rescue Pup’s Joyce Gonzalez said.
