Feb. 2
Mountlake Terrace residents are invited to attend a work party scheduled by the city’s Off-Leash Dog Park Task Force from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 2.
The Task Force, nicknamed MLT D.O.G., is comprised of residents who will support and help maintain the new off-leash dog park through volunteer efforts and donations.
The City is working with a core group of dog owners to make an off-leash dog park a reality.
But first, an environmental study has been conducted on the proposed site located behind the Recreation Pavilion to review site and topography assessment, soil conditions, vegetation, animal and bird habitat, energy and natural resources, and environmental health, water, air and noise.
Once the environmental checklist is submitted, an appeal process would be in effect until early to mid-March.
Once the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) process is completed, the proposal will be brought back for City Council funding approval.
Rain or shine, MLT D.O.G. asks that you please bring gloves and tools to remove blackberry bushes and meet behind the Recreational Pavilion at 53rd Avenue W. and 228th Street S.W.
Its goal, pending City Council final approval, is to have the off-leash dog park fenced and ready to open in May. For more information about the work party or becoming a member of MLT D.O.G., please send e-mail to: 4mltdog@gmail.com.

McAuliffe joins education group
Washington Sen. Rosemary McAuliffe, D-Bothell, has been named to serve on the board of a group that provides students with supportive educational programs and numerous activities in Snohomish County.
“I’m looking forward to joining the Snohomish Education Foundation and helping to provide more opportunity for our students around Snohomish County,” said McAuliffe, “it’s a group that really makes a difference for kids in our area.”
The foundation was founded in 1986 to provide broader educational opportunities for students and teachers in the Snohomish School District. Led by a volunteer board, the foundation develops private donations to build their programs.
She understands – with 11 grandchildren in Snohomish public schools – that a basic education is not enough, and she is committed to helping us give every child a margin of excellence in their education,” said the board’s vice president, Janet Kusler.
